Duke Energy Joins Aspen Institute's Call
In 2009, Duke Energy and 27 other leaders representing business, the financial community, government, academia and labor endorsed the Aspen Institute’s call for investors to focus on creating long-term value rather than short-term gain.
With the intense pressure for companies to meet or exceed quarterly earnings expectations, it is easy to fall into “short-termism” – forgoing long-term value creation for short-term gains. The Aspen Institute’s statement, Overcoming Short-Termism: A Call for a More Responsible Approach to Investment and Business Management, encourages a renewed focus on long-term value creation.
This effort builds on the Aspen Institute’s ongoing focus on sustainable value for investors and society, including the Aspen Principles for Long-Term Value Creation released in 2007. Duke Energy was an early signatory to these principles.
