EHS Policy and Management System

Our commitment to the environment, health and safety is more than a priority – it is the way we do business.  Duke Energy’s Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Policy and Management System help us define expectations for conduct and business practices across the company.

Since 1998, our EHS Policy and Management System have worked together to provide a systematic approach to managing EHS risks, opportunities and impacts. The EHS Policy provides direction to employees and contractors to ensure that corporate EHS values are consistently applied across Duke Energy. Within the EHS Management System, 39 standards spanning nine functional areas help us focus on results while providing flexibility in how EHS is managed. The system provides a common framework for EHS business planning, implementation, measurement and performance improvement.

In 2009, we enhanced the processes we use to identify emerging environmental challenges. We also introduced the Safety Culture Maturity Path – a tool that helps business units gauge their current safety performance relative to best practices.
